One survivor's story. Infinite possibility.
"My injury didn't end my story — it gave me a story worth telling. And if one person leaves my talk believing that their hardest chapter isn't their last chapter, then everything I've been through was worth it."
— Lukas KarlssonAt 19 years old, Lukas Karlsson suffered a traumatic brain injury that left him in a coma for 2 weeks. What came next was a years-long journey through intensive rehabilitation at Barrow Neurological Institute's Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation (CTN) at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona — relearning to walk, speak, and rebuild his identity from the ground up.
What Lukas could not have known then was that his experience would become a gift he would share with thousands. He returned to school at ASU W.P. Carey School of Business, founded Hug Your Head Foundation during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has since delivered powerful presentations to schools, sports teams, hospitals, and organizations across the country.
Lukas's talks blend the raw honesty of a survivor's journey with the science of neuroplasticity, the power of resilience, and a deeply personal call to action around brain health and helmet safety. He meets every audience where they are — whether he's speaking to high school athletes about concussion prevention, healthcare workers about patient empathy, or corporate leaders about adversity and perseverance.
Available for schools, universities, hospitals, sports organizations, nonprofit conferences, and corporate events — in person or virtually.
Every presentation is tailored to the audience. Below are Lukas's core topics — available individually or woven together for a custom keynote.
A first-person account of surviving a traumatic brain injury — the coma, the rehabilitation, the setbacks, the breakthroughs, and the extraordinary power of the human will to heal.
What does it really mean to be resilient? Lukas draws from his TBI recovery to offer a practical, honest exploration of resilience — not as a buzzword, but as a daily practice.
An evidence-based, personally driven talk on why protecting your brain matters — essential for youth athletes, sports programs, and anyone who wants to take proactive care of their most important organ.
How isolation deepens trauma, and how intentional community — peer support, mentoring, family engagement — becomes one of the most powerful forces in recovery.
Lukas's signature message for young audiences: a raw, honest, and deeply motivating story of choosing to keep going when every part of you wants to stop. Perfect for schools, teams, and youth programs.
Designed specifically for athletic programs, coaches, and school staff — covering recognition, prevention, protocol, and the lasting impact of TBI on student-athletes and young people.
